Shooting Stars: Great Photographers of the West is the story of how a small group of artist/adventurers used a newly invented form of communication to open the American West.

As gold seekers criss-crossed the West 150 years ago, some returned with wild-eyed tales of trees that touched the sky and canyons without bottoms. A few daring adventurers decided to see these wonders for themselves. They traveled into the unknown, their mules weighed down by the equipment needed to operate a new invention - the camera. Through the eyes of such early photographers as Carleton Watkins, John Hillers and William Henry Jackson, the world discovered Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.

Using archival images , stop-action animation and narration by legendary western star Hugh O'Brian, Shooting Stars celebrates a movement in American Art and History that helped create the National Park System. It ends with a tribute to Ansel Adams and the others who further defined this vision and forever changed America's relationship to its natural heritage. This award-winning 8 minute documentary is available as a DVD extra with ECHOES THROUGH TIME: GRAND CANYON and ECHOES THROUGH TIME: DEATH VALLEY.

Narrated by Western TV and Film Legend Hugh O'Brian
